I’m off to Iloilo to attend Youth Hours by The Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community. :)

Youth Hours is a formation workshop for select college students. The formation is anchored on the three pillars of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) - academic excellence, leadership and social responsibility.

The event is also a marketing vehicle for the TOSP Search.

Dia in Manila

Last night was amazing. I went to Dia Frampton’s show at Hard Rock Cafe Makati (Philippines), the first (paid) concert/music show I’ve been to.

I’ve been a fan since her audition on The Voice and I seriously think that the biggest irony of the show is Dia losing to Javier Colon. Javier’s voice is angelic but too..generic. Dia’s voice is infinitely better than Javier’s. Even Vicci Martinez and Beverly McClellan are more interesting than Javier. Damn you, Bieber.

Anyway, it was a short show but it was worth every penny. She opened with Don’t Kick The Chair followed by Trapeze, my favorite song in her album. Other song from her album that she sang were Walk Away, Daniel, and The Broken Ones.

She also sang three songs she did in The Voice - Heartless, Losing My Religion and Inventing Shadows. Hearing her sing these songs live was surreal especially Heartless. Her voice was just so haunting.

Dia also did a cover of Ingrid Michaelson’s The Way I Am, Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks. People were more familiar with the latter and while her version was refreshing, I enjoyed The Way I Am much more.

She closed the show with a Tom Petty song and it the audience went on a frenzy. Except me. I don’t know Tom Petty and the song she sang. But it sounded really nice.

I couldn’t have had any better first concert experience.

The Lorax.

Decided not to see this on theater after reading bad reviews from friends. But last night the boyfriend and I decided to see it in our 3D TV *ahem*

Well, it was a visual eye feast. Perhaps the most colorful and vibrant movie I’ve seen so far. But as far as the plot is concerned, it was meh. The songs were so-so excepts perhaps Let It Grow (?). Actually thought, the movie would have picked itself up from there but the improvement started and ended there.

Lastly, why the hell is this called The Lorax? Jeezus.

When I listen to albums, I usually wait for that one song that...

The Newton, Connecticut killing is heartbreaking. My heart is grieving for the victims especially for the souls of the children whose lives were ended too soon.

At times like this, my belief that God, if he really exists,doesn’t interfere with anything is strengthened. God only watches and waits.

If I believe in God, I imagine a God that is fair. He either helps us all or ignore us all. He can’t help some and ignore the rest.

Now, is it part of his plan to get these children killed? No.

But he can’t do anything about it either. Not after he gave us freedom to live the life we want. Not after he gave us the freedom to choose.

All these doesn’t make God cruel. These make him fair. It’s painful but there’s no other way.

As we weep and grieve, God watches and waits. And perhaps weep and grieve with us too.
